COLUMBUS, Ohio – A man was shot and killed after he allegedly broke into several vehicles in an east side neighborhood early Sunday.
Police said that a resident in the neighborhood confronted the accused thief and then shot the man, 10TV’s Ashleigh Barry reported.
The man accused of breaking into the vehicles along Bollingen was later identified by police as Sean Stiffler.
When the alleged shooter approached Stiffler, 28, police said the man felt threatened when Stiffler reached into his pocket. At that point, the resident shot and killed Stiffler, Barry reported.
10TV News discovered that Stiffler had a long history of petty theft.
Police found several items, believed to be stolen from the vehicles in the neighborhood, inside the car Stiffler was driving which was also stolen.
Police said that they would turn the results of the investigation over to the Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office to determine whether charges should be filed.
